The DVI-D output on my computer, when connected to a known good VGA monitor with this adapter, does not pass a signal the VGA monitor can "see". I was stupid not to check the reviews. I will also attest: This adapter doesn't do ANYTHING to allow a VGA monitor to connect to my computer's DVI-D output except that it fits the plug. At least I learned something. READ THE REVIEWS.
I am sorry that I bought this even after reading other's review. Thought it wouldn't hurt for such less price but this product is useless and will not work, you cannot use it to convert digital to analog signal. DO NOT BUY.
That type of adaptor costs usually $80-$150. This adaptor does nothing, especially not what it the description says it will do, which is connect a DVI jack to a VGA monitor. In order to do that (and have it work), you would need a converter that converts digital signal to analog. I learned all this the hard way: by buying this adaptor, plugging my VGA monitor cable into the DVI jack on my computer, wondering why it didn't work, then educating myself on what it means to convert a digital signal to analog. Do not buy this adaptor; it does absolutely nothing and I don't understand why it is even manufactured.
Cheap means trouble, this adaptor is worthless and I don't know why they even made it.I got this adapter from HDE though Amazon of curse, the seller does not indicate that the adapter being sold and shipped is a DVI-D which means digital only. There is a first time for every thing and they got me this time; I should it checked before ordering, but I was in a hurry.You see the pins on that DVI-D side C1 red, C2 Green, C3 Blue C4 Horizontal sync; are missing, the only one present is C5 for Ground. So on the VGA side pins 1, 2, 3, red, green and blue are not connected to any thing.I paid $2.59 plus SH $5.58 not bad for the price, but id had to buy a new video card.
DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU NEED TO CONNECT YOU NEW MAC MINI WITH DVI-D ONLY OUT TO AN OLD VGA ONLY MONITOR OR PROJECTOR OR LCD TV. THIS WILL NOT CONVERT ANYTHING, THE ITEM ADVERTISED HERE IS NOT FOR DVI-D TO VGA CONVERSION. DO NOT BUY.
